I Am

I could be talking about the experience of Moses and the Burning Bush (Exodus 3:14); I could be ruminating on what is the essence of being human.

Nope. I'm talking about a documentary made over ten years ago by Tom Shadyac, director of movies like Bruce Almighty and The Nutty Professor (full disclosure: I have seen none of his movies). This short film was recommended to me recently by a friend, and the description was intriguing enough for me to spend the time (and five bucks) it took to watch the thing. And I have a feeling it will forever change how I see and believe.

We are all connected. Not just in a symbolic, "merely" spiritual, or even evolutionary way. At the molecular level, at the primordial--in inescapable, imperceptible, undeniable ways. And what we put out into the universe matters. Ecologically, of course we have come to believe this. Economically & politically, we sense it. But this documentary demonstrates that what we put out into the universe in terms of hope and joy and generosity and forgiveness--and all the things that represent the best of what humanity has to offer (read: gifts of the Holy Spirit)--all of these things change not just ourselves and our own little worlds--but all of reality.

And so, I am making a promise, a commitment. This blog will henceforth be about the good things in life; what's right with our world and how we can both enjoy and contribute to it.

Today, dearest reader, know in the depths of your being--that you are vitally, integrally important to the creation of the world.

And watch the documentary--you won't be sorry. Click here for the trailer if you need convincing.
