Love Will Win

I spent this past weekend with some new friends in the Dallas area, offering a Women's Retreat for the parishes of the diocese. (If any of you are reading this, welcome!) This event had been on the books for over two years, but there were threats all the way up to its beginning to impede the thing actually happening. Everything from COVID (which has impeded all of us in countless ways) to canceled flights to a gremlin-infested powerpoint presentation. In the end, it all came off without a hitch. But boy was there something trying to work against it happening.

What's your reaction when things like that happen? Do you call it bad luck? Satan interfering? Coincidence? Some combination of the three?

I don't exactly know what was at work to prevent good things from happening, but I can tell you this: whatever it was didn't prevail. Goodness prevailed. And grace. And beauty. And kindness. And inspiration. And community. And love.

"There are three things that last: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."

This isn't a long post; it's a short one to remind myself--and you, if you're so inclined--that in the end, all that lasts is love (and all love's cousins--see the partial list above.)

As you read this right now and come to the conclusion of this post, close your eyes and give thanks for all the ways love wins. Amen, amen, and forever amen.
